The beauty of waking up early

Sleep is a lovely thing and when the alarm rings 5.30 in the early morning, we don’t feel like getting out of our warm nest into the cold.

Opening your eyes in the dark is a heavy task, so you turn on the light. The bright flash almost blinds you and you decide that it is actually really important to rush out of bed otherwise you’ll get late again at work. So you try to enthusiastically jump out of bed, ready for the new day. You open the curtains and the very dark sky already turned in a marine blue.

The warm shower feels as a different type of caffeine, awakening. A quick bite of breakfast and there you go in the fresh morning air, grabbing your bicycle, down the alley on the silent roads.

Wind through your hair, pumping the fresh air in your lungs, the exercise of cycling gets you excited to speed up a little bit. All alone on the road feels great; no bothering stoplights, no noise and everything is quiet and peaceful. The road goes up the dike towards the canal and the windmill in all its glory with a lighter marine blue sky stands mighty. Birds sitting on it suddenly lift of and make curvy shapes in a group in the air.

That sight, rushing from the bridge, over the water, down the dike, more wind through your hair, makes you sing out loud your favourite song which always cheers you up and brightens up your mood even more. Reaching the metro after fifteen minutes curly clouds float in an orange sky, which fades away the blue. And you are thankful that the luck of having the sun today is with you.

In this way waking up early isn’t that bad, even work can possibly not spoil this mood.
